Today is my mother's birthday! I am thankful to have her in my life. She is very supportive of my mission with caregivers. Also, since my dad passed three months ago, we have become closer. Or least, I am watching her overall health, happiness, and well-being more these days.
Today on The Caregiving Doctor Show, we wil discuss free medications for senior citizens. My guest is the Coordinator of the Senior RX program, Meghan Dobson, of Jefferson County Council on Aging. She will provide the necessary information and process for completing the application process, the role of the pharmaceutical company, the Office of Senior Citzen Services, and what caregivers need to do. You don't want to miss this show! Have a great day everyone!

Hi everyone, it is good to be back on The Caregiving Doctor Show today. Our guest is Dr. Malia Manning, a UAB Hospital pharmacist. She came highly recommended by UAB. Our topic today is: "Older People and Their Medications: What Every Caregiver Should Know." We will answer basic questions that caregivers and senior citizens may have about accurately taking their medicines, how to store, label, and much more! Older people in general have problems with medications for the following reasons:
1. Remembering to take their medicines.
2. Difficulty in swallowing the pills, tablets, and opening containers.
3. They may have problems reading the labels.
4. They may have difficulting scheduling the many different medicines
throughout the day.
We will also discuss why it's not a good idea to mix prescription medicine with alcohol, herbs, and other home remedies. The team should include your doctor, your pharmacist, your caregiver, and the older adult. Listen to us live on Heaven 610 WAGG. Taking your medicine incorrectly can mean the difference between life and death. Have a great week!

Greetings everyone! This week on The Caregiving Doctor Show we will have the Alabama Cares Program Coordinator, Janice Williams, on air to talk about her program at the Office of Senior Citizen Services. We are so happy to have her share her expertise, the program, and it's benefits to caregivers who need respite. This program is critical because family caregivers need a break, rest, relaxation, and resources to help them remain in their caregiving role. Family caregivers who are on the frontline are often alone without support from relatives and friends. The program will show you how to apply for assistance for respite care. You can stream the show live on Heaven 610 WAGG A.M. from 2-3 P.M. Keep listening! Keep growing!
